The Mount Pleasant Open took place the weekend of 22nd – 24th January. There was a full draw in the Womens A, Mens B & C sections. So loads of good squash was played. In the Women’s final No. 1 seed Ciara Moloney played Claire O’Neill. Claire has been away from the game for 4 years, having had 2 children, so it was great to see her back. She showed she hasn’t lost her ‘eye’ and even though seeded 11th reached the final convincingly dropping only 1 game on the way to the final. Ciara however was too strong for her and won 3-0. It was great to see an A & B women’s section in a tournament. First time this season.
In the Men’s section with some of the young guys either away on tour or at college in the US, it was left to the ‘older’ guys. Duly, the final saw Derek Ryan & Steve Richardson battle it out. It was a super match with Derek playing super stuff reminiscent of years ago. He beat Steve 3-0.
