MEN – Ireland beat Ukraine as Expected
Ireland are 2 up after both Arthur Gaskin and Steve Richardson won 3-0 in 34min & 37min respectively. Both matches went as expected against the Second Division no. 11 seeds. Derek Ryan has won the 3rd match 11-6, 11-9, 11-5 in 27min in another comfortable match. So Ireland have a victory in their 2nd match of the day, having drawn 2-2 with Wales earlier.
Brian Byrne is two up in his match having won it 11-9, 12-10. A much tougher match than his team mates. Brian has won the match in a very close 3rd set, due to his opponnent retiring due to cramp,so Ireland’s men won 4-0 against an improving team from the Ukraine, also part coached by Hadrian Stiff, Ireland’s National coach.

WOMEN – Comprehensive victory over Wales 3-0 (9-1)
First up Madeline Perry had a quick victory over Wales’s Tesni Evans 3-0 in 19 minutes. The game was fairly straightforward 11-7, 11-6 & 11-2. Laura Mylotte beat Hannah Davies 3-1, 11-7, 6-11, 11-6, 11-1 in 26 min to go two up. Again another convincing performance from Laura to secure the overall match vs Wales.
Just down to Aisling Blake to avenge her defeat by Deon Saffery, who beat her 3-0 in the 1st round of last week’s IRISH OPEN.
Latest – Aisling won 3-0 (11-4, 11-4, 11-7) in 35 min – Aisling was very motivated to win and gain her revenge which I suspect Deon expected.
So a clean sweep for Ireland’s women’s team from the first day – two 3-0’s vs Czech Republic & Wales.
Next up France tomorrow morning which will be an altogether more difficult challange but one that won’t deter them.
