Silver medals for Denis Gilevskiy/U17 and Sam Buckley/U19 in the Belgian Junior Open. And a 4th for Alex Smith/U17. Great win in the U15 for Naomi Nohar, formally of mount Pleasant Congratulations to all. Results
Denis Gilevskiy (Mount Pleasant) make Irish Squash history yet again this weekend by winning the British Junior Championships BU15 in Nottingham. Denis (seeded number 1) played the English #1 Jonah Bryant in the final, coming back from 2/1 down to take the 5th game 11/9. The match score was 12-10 11-5 9-11 8-11 11-9.
He’s now added the British Junior Closed title to his British Junior Open Championship U13 in 2017.
With the British Junior Open coming up in January this is a very significant result for Denis and suggests both he and his coach Angus Kirkland are well on course for a very strong challenge.
Well done Denis!

Conor Ringland Remembered
A strong natural sportsman, who also played golf to a high level, Conor enjoyed squash with clubs in Kerry, in Sutton, and in TCD. In 2014 he was elected captain of the squash club in Trinity, combining the administrative and social responsibilities of the position with his studies during his final undergraduate year. He continued to represent Trinity in the Leinster Squash League as a young graduate while working towards qualification as a solicitor. In the course of the summer he had changed jobs, moving from one firm of solicitors to another in which he was enjoying the experience of exposure to work in different areas of law.
Four of us drove back to the city centre together after the match. We talked of organising strength and conditioning training, and discussed other plans and prospects for the coming season. I dropped Conor off on Barrow Street, where he had caught the Dart to Sutton earlier in the evening, and watched him unlock his bicycle and set off, helmet on, squash bag on his back, heading for home. We parted with the usual suggestion that we would try to get on court together later in the week, but this time it didn’t happen.
Conor Ringland died suddenly on Monday 22nd October. He was thoughtful and articulate, conscientious, calm, and supportive. He was a good captain, team-mate, and friend. We in the Trinity squash community enjoyed the time he spent with us, and will miss him greatly.
The 3rd Youth Olympic games start this weekend in Buenos Aires. Ireland’s Conor Moran is among 19 girls and 19 boys, from 28 countries. Action from the Glass Squash Court, complete with innovative interactive front-wall technology, will begin on October 7th. at Technopolis Park. Conor, packing for his trip, leaves for Argentina today. Good luck to him as he represents Ireland and Europe in these important Olympic Games for Squash.

To celebrate WORLD SQUASH DAY on OCTOBER 13th and help promote both your club and our great game of Squash, IRISH SQUASH urge you to organise a day of activity in your squash club. We encourage you to also fundraise for a local charity during your event to engage the event with your local community.
This is an opportunity to bring your club together and also to promote the club and Squash to the community in your area.
So please organise play in your club on Saturday the 13th of October.
Irish Squash particularly encourage you to organise play for juniors in your club/community, even if they have never played before. Visitors are especially welcome and should be encouraged to come along.
World Squash Day founder Alan Thatcher, a tournament organiser and author from England, is keen to promote the health benefits of playing squash.
He said: “Squash is rated one of the healthiest sports for players of all ages. At a time when many governments are spending a fortune on treating the effects of childhood obesity and a lack of physical activity among middle-aged people, squash can provide the ideal solution.
“Squash burns around 900 calories per hour and the health benefits can last a lifetime for those who continue playing into their 40s, 50s and 60s.
