Squash Ireland is seeking a dedicated Safeguarding & Disciplinary Officer to oversee and enhance the organisation’s safeguarding and disciplinary policies. This part-time role (approx. equivalent to 1 day per week) involves ensuring compliance with safeguarding legislation in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, coordinating training, conducting audits, and acting as the Designated Liaison Person for safeguarding concerns. The successful candidate will also manage disciplinary cases, review policies, and promote a culture of safety and integrity within the sport.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and update safeguarding policies and procedures in alignment with legislation within the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
- Promote safeguarding awareness and compliance throughout the organisation.
- Coordinate safeguarding training for staff, coaches, and volunteers.
- Ensure all individuals working with minors or vulnerable individuals are adequately trained and Garda / Access NI vetted.
- Conduct audits of clubs and committees to ensure adherence to safeguarding policies.
- Maintain records of safeguarding incidents, risk assessments, and training logs.
- Act as the Designated Liaison Person for safeguarding concerns or reports.
- Investigate and manage safeguarding cases in line with best practices and legal requirements.
- Review and update Codes of Conduct, disciplinary and related policies on a regular basis to ensure a best practice approach is adopted.
- Investigate allegations of misconduct, ensuring impartiality and fairness.
- Convene and manage disciplinary panels where necessary, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Maintain detailed records of disciplinary actions and resolutions.
- Prepare reports for the Board and relevant stakeholders.
- Deliver workshops and materials to promote awareness of acceptable conduct and disciplinary measures.
- Support key volunteers to further enhance the safety and integrity of the sport.
Key Skills and Qualifications
Essential:
- Proven experience in safeguarding and/or disciplinary management within sports or a related field.
- Strong understanding of legislation within the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland pertaining to safeguarding matters.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion, integrity, and professionalism.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and mediation skills.
- Experience managing investigations and writing detailed, accurate reports.
Desirable:
- Experience working in sports organisations.
- Familiarity with legal and ethical considerations in disciplinary processes.
- Relevant qualification in safeguarding, child protection, law, or a related field.
Further Information
- Part-time, approximately equivalent to 1 day per week. Flexibility to respond promptly as needed will be required.
- Flexible and remote working is available reflecting the nature of the role. Occasional travel to the Squash Ireland Office located on the Sport Ireland Campus, Dublin 15, may be required.
