Safeguarding Requirements

Under the Children First Act 2015 (ROI) and the Children (NI) Order, along with Cooperating to Safeguard Children and Young People 2017, all coaches must complete safeguarding training.

Coaches in the Republic of Ireland are required to attend a Safeguarding 1 Basic Awareness workshop, which can be arranged through your Local Sports Partnership (search: Local Sports Partnership/safeguarding).

In Northern Ireland, Sport NI provides the necessary training—contact your local council’s sports development officer for guidance on accessing it.

Garda Vetting / Access NI Requirements

Under the same legislation, all coaches are required to undergo vetting. For those living or working in Ireland, this process is conducted through the National Vetting Bureau (NVB). For those in Northern Ireland, vetting is done via Access NI (ANI).

Both the National Vetting Bureau and Access NI applications are processed online, though there are differences between the systems. Each requires a paper form to validate your identification, which is a legal requirement. Please note that you must be 17 years or older to participate in Squash Ireland Coaching courses, in accordance with WSF guidelines. Applicants aged 17 require Parent/Guardian consent.

The application forms include detailed instructions, so please review them carefully before applying to ensure you have the correct information and understand the process. For more information, visit: Garda Vetting Information.
